[The video turns on, and Steve studies the screen for a moment, looking for a hint that it's on and working like it should be.] Is this how I do this? [Someone pointed out the basics to him, but it will take a while before he's used to the idea of something that's a combination of a phone and a moving picture.
Now that he's said that, he doesn't know what to follow it with. He's used to observing a situation without drawing attention to himself.] Hello. My name's Steve. Steve Trevor. Captain. I'm a pilot with the American Expeditionary Forces.
[Eagle-eyed history buffs will notice that his uniform is that of a German officer, not an American one, but his accent is fully American.]
Was a pilot, I suppose. [Since the war's not going on here.] There's nowhere in the city looking to hire a pilot, is there?

Hi, Steve. ( a small smile, some attempt at the welcome anyone new deserves. and steve must be new, because she doesn't recognize him, and she wasn't gone that long. ) I haven't seen any pilots, but the police force wouldn't turn away a trained soldier, if you'd be interested in that.
Or you could do something new, if you wanted to.

[He's got some skills that could help with law enforcement, after all, or investigations, if they have any of those. It's something to keep in mind.]

Are you settling in okay? To the city, I mean. You're probably new, right?

( though... maybe this guy, looking like he's stepped out of a history book, might not be so familiar with what counted for modern technology here. )
It's the little button on the screen that looks like a globe.

Doesn't look like a standard AEF uniform there, Capt'n. Was it laundry day and you were in a bind?
[ He's not talking maliciously, but he is undoubtedly curious - since his joining the Legends, meeting people from entirely different time periods than he is has become usual, but it doesn't make it any less incredible and exciting. ]
What year are you coming from, if I may?
no subject
AEF, assigned to British Intelligence. [He's a spy.] If you want to get in to a party being thrown by a German officer, you have to look like you belong.
It's 1918.
no subject
Oh, so you're a spy!
[ Nate has no filter. Was it meant to stay a secret? ]
Welcome to 2017, Captain Trevor. You won't need the uniform anymore, at least. The Germans aren't the enemy anymore.
[ You should never know too much about your future, but it's not like Nate is talking about Steve's personal history. The guy might want to know that the world has changed.
Even if it hasn't changed that much. ]

That's a relief. Although given human nature, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until there's another enemy. [Oh Steve. If you only had any idea.]

[ The US has been militarily active for such a long time it doesn't really occur to her that a military pilot might ever stop without retiring. ]

Steve? When did you get here? Has it been very long?
no subject
[This is it. This is exactly what he wanted. Now he doesn't have to trade his time here for time with Diana; his time here is time with Diana.]
I just got here today. I didn't know you were here.
no subject
( The emotion is almost too much to bear but she manages; Diana doesn't want to lose composure over the network. )

I'm glad you're here.
