[Eagle-eyed history buffs will notice that his uniform is that of a German officer, not an American one, but his accent is fully American.]

Was a pilot, I suppose. [Since the war's not going on here.] There's nowhere in the city looking to hire a pilot, is there?

Well I have good news and bad news about Germany.

At least I can tell you that since we got Germany sorted there hasn’t been another war of that global scale.

So what exactly happened with Germany? [They might as well get this over with.]

Among other things? A truly evil man came into power and started a mission of wanton genocide.

Plenty of other stuff was going on, but that's what people remember the most. Well, that and nuclear weapons, which... honestly you'll probably be happier not knowing about.

A lot worse, especially for civilians.

This war was bad enough for civilians already.

It does get better, after. There are enough technological advanced that casualties got cut way down.

Supposedly they gather energy from good deeds and cuddling, and then use it to grant wishes? That's pretty fricken neat. And, I mean, I'm not dead? So I can't really be mad.

I'd say my chances are 20% or less. Gotham does make a lot of hail mary passes.
