[The video turns on, and Steve studies the screen for a moment, looking for a hint that it's on and working like it should be.] Is this how I do this? [Someone pointed out the basics to him, but it will take a while before he's used to the idea of something that's a combination of a phone and a moving picture.
Now that he's said that, he doesn't know what to follow it with. He's used to observing a situation without drawing attention to himself.] Hello. My name's Steve. Steve Trevor. Captain. I'm a pilot with the American Expeditionary Forces.
[Eagle-eyed history buffs will notice that his uniform is that of a German officer, not an American one, but his accent is fully American.]
Was a pilot, I suppose. [Since the war's not going on here.] There's nowhere in the city looking to hire a pilot, is there?

[ Which is a hypocritical thing to say for the guy that's always wanted to be a soldier and never could until very recently, but. Nevermind that, nobody has to know. ]

[Does he want to keep fighting for those who can't fight for themselves? Yes, he absolutely does.]

[ Back to the library it is for him. ]
But I'm just curious, I guess, what you'd do if you weren't a soldier.

[ Sound way to live when you don't know if you're going to live to see another sunrise. ]
Maybe being here is a way for you to find out.

[At least the end is in sight now.]
Yes. Maybe I can find out what life might be like after the war.

[ It was such an important part of so many soldiers' lives. Someone to hang on to, to believe in, to fight for. Countless stories - fictional and not - had been written about it. ]

Oh, man, that's awesome! Isn't it awesome? It must be awesome.
[ Look, Nate's been single for a while, okay. ]

[ Sounds fake. ]
Oh, wait, she's a nurse?

[ Nate has the sudden, pressing need to check for timequakes, and ask Gideon if WWI's history changed since the last time he looked into it. ]
I'm a historian. I've never heard of women on the World War I front. Which isn't to say I'm calling you a liar, right, I believe you, I just don't understand how it slipped past history.

[As for why it's not in the history books, he doesn't know how to answer that.]

She's an Amazon, like a daughter of Gods, women-only-Themiscyra-living, cut-off-their-right-breast Greek mythological beings, Amazons?
[ First Valkyries, now Amazons. Will wonders truly ever cease? Sara would have killed to meet an Amazon. ]

Your girlfriend is an Amazonian princess.
[ According to legend, it shouldn't even be possible. Amazons didn't take lovers or husbands - they only met guys from time to time to procreate. It was all pretty grim, Nate remembers.
Also, legend. Just like the Valkyries, but hey, he'd met one of those in person, now. And she was very hot and very scary. Seriously, Sara would fit in so well in this place. ]
Way to punch above your weight, buddy. No offense, I mean, it's punching above any guy's weight really.

I just wanted a way off the island, and Diana insisted on coming with me. She said it was her duty to stop the war.

[ And Nate is still impressed. ]

[ Nathaniel Heywood, cheer squad of one. ]
If I were you, I'd be so proud of myself.
