I met a Valkyrie on, like, my second day here. And then I got to the library and checked the town records and other things and discovered there's a lot more than her around, too. It definitely doesn't agree with my world views in general - I'm a historian and history is what I like, not folklore and mythology, but. You can't really deny it when it's right in front of your nose, right?

Yeah, at the public library! It's a government building, they tend to make those accessible. Why, you got interest in someone in particular?

Oh. Names, times and dates and locations of birth, arrival date, start apartment address, that kind of thing.

So you could use them to find out if a specific person was here.

The war's not over yet. At this point it's just hopeful thinking that the sacrifices of those who are fighting might mean something.

Well, one should never know too much about the future, but considering you are in it now... Believe me, the sacrifice does matter, and it does change things. It changes everything, actually.

[That sacrifice is pretty personal for him, so he's even more interested in this than Nate probably guesses.]

How does it change everything?

The Empires were dissolved, democracies put in place throughout Europe. New countries emerged. Plenty of political change happened. But more importantly, it was a wake-up call. People started understanding that we need to work together rather than against each other.

[ But he can't gloss over the fact that it also led to an even worse war. ]

Sadly, it wasn't the last major world conflict that'd happen.

Yes, I've heard something about that already.

No more, though. But if ever such a conflict arose again, I’d fight for freedom, if only because you and men like you inspired me to.
