The other is one that's long overdue, because his shirt is still blood-stained, starting to tear at the seams, and no matter how he tries to save it, it's no use.]

Hello anyone who's listening. I have a little problem that could use solving and I have just enough money to make it worth someone's while. Maybe you can see, but I don't exactly have very nice clothes for these days, hoping that someone could take pity and show me what it is people wear.

[Normal people, not the kind who he's seen around.]

Where I come from, the only person we call a professional is the kind who sits in your lap for a few coins. Sunday best, though, I know that better.

Okay...I'll do my best to remember that here on out.

For the gentleman or at least men, tailored pressed shirts tucked into fitted trousers. Closed toed shoes, shined. Combed hair. That's all I got. I usually require a few pointers when it comes to dressing.

That sounds very complicated. The shoes and tailored shirts. I comb my hair every day, you know. I may have been far from civilized before, but I wasn't a wild man either.

You still have to get dressed, but how do you know if you look any good? Does someone tell you this? Are they honest to you?

I usually rely on a friend to help me out. A sale's person will tell you anything looks good. I keep my clothes together and labeled.

And you trust them? What if they're too nice of friends and they tell you lies?

You could be going outside not knowing that you look like shit.

[There are ways to figure that and Matt can't exactly tell Senor Vasquez. For now.]

I also have phone apps that give me a basic description of what I should be looking at. And so far no one has laughed at me so I think I'm doing well enough. I've resigned to never be a fashion plate.

Phone apps? Those are one of those future things that I don't understand, isn't it? I guess next time, I'll have to meet you in face to face and see how badly you're really dressed, hmm?

Then again, maybe I won't be so good myself.

Any tips, then? You say that I should have nice shoes, shirts, pants. Colours? Something like that I should try?

I've been told nearly everyone looks good in navy blue.

It's a type of blue? Dark, yes?

I always liked burgundy. The rich colour of deep blood against your skin.

In the right kind of company, yeah. That would work nicely.

Last vest I had that was mine and mine only, it was burgundy. I think if I keep wearing only that here, it will fall apart.

There are also other events. Beach parties, events. I have nothing for those, this is why I need new help.

Maybe you can find a replacement? I say that if you're going to put the money down, find things you like. You're the one that will be wearing them.

You know someone who can stitch together leather expertly? It took me three cities to find that before and even then, I had to bribe him with free work for a week before I could earn it.

You said you were a lawyer, this thing where you help people. Did you need to make sure they dress nice there, too?

Uh... not specifically. I know how you could go about finding such a person. And you won't have to take one step at all. Hint--the ability to do that is in your hand.

Yes. I would heavily advise looking presentable in court. The judge doesn't know you personally neither does the jury. And in that circumstance appearances are key to look unsuspecting.

[This whole phone business is never going to feel comfortable to Vasquez, not ever, and when Matt says that, he takes it away and squints at it. Embarrassing, yes, but good thing Matt is blind and can't see it! Also, they're over the phone.]

What happens if you don't get a judge or a jury? Does it matter what you wear to the hanging?

[Nope. He can't see at all. Just a wild guess that the fact makes him uncomfortable. Matt is working his way up to suggesting they help one another. Slowly but surely.]

If a person takes another person's life, that is murder. And usually if you are going to be sentenced to death the prison issues you a uniform.

We talked about this before, I think. Or someone did. They tell me the uniforms are very orange? So you can be seen?

That should be enough to make you want to be very, very good at the murder, if you need to do it.

[He may have a very different outlook on murder than most modern people, he's starting to find.]

They can be seen at a distance. Yes. And I'm sure the fabric is inexpensive as well as garish. That might be a psychological punishment.

Yes? Yes. I am. It's not very nice to put a man in any clothes but his own, though. I think you're right about torture.
