video.
[when the feed opens, it's a shot of a very uncomfortable looking scott mccall. dressed in a pair of jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, scott looks like he's been rolling in a field. which...is a lot closer to the truth than you'd think. there's a leash in one of his hands, the whole thing clearly being filmed by a second person. someone who sounds far too amused by what's happening here. so it's around a laugh that the mystery voice prompts a quiet "go on". ... right.]
Um. Hi. Uh-- My name's Scott. McCall. [wow, okay. trying this again. don't mind him while he just clears his throat and--] I'm Scott, and I'm new here? [more laughing because "that's not meant to sound like a question, kid"] --oh. Right.
Okay, my name's Scott, and I arrived a few weeks ago. I've taken a job at the animal shelter here. [he's about to continue on, but--] Sorry. Best Friends Animal Rescue. And I've been asked to see if there's anyone else out there who'd be able to lend a hand.
[there's some whining then, and scott looks down to his feet. a moment later, and he crouches out of shot to pick up the ball of fur at his feet. one slobbery lick to his face, and there goes the discomfort. now he's on to business. with a huge smile on his face, of course.]
There's a lot of little guys here who could use a friend. Even if you can't take an animal permanently, we're looking for people who'd be able to foster them for a bit. A couple of months maybe. Just so they can get out of here for a while.
I mean, it's great here. It really is. But it's not the same as giving them a family.
So, I guess. What I'm asking is: is there anybody out there who'd be interested in taking care of an animal for a while? We've got dogs, cats, rabbits, a guinea pig. Then there are also a couple of rats, a few hamsters, and some gerbils if you don't have space for any of the others.
If you're interested, you need to come by for an assessment with one of the team. I can't do that part, but if you've got any questions, I can try to help.
Um...thank you. [and then his gaze moves off-screen as he adds--] Was that okay? [though you'll never hear the answer to that because that's when the feed is finally cut.]

Nah, I wouldn't go for a young one. I think I'd like to rescue an older one. I hate the idea that they'd die in some shelter.
[ Possibly, someone is carrying some guilt about leaving his old man at the hospice. Even if it was a great one. ]
I think I could keep a dog with me at B-Sides. It's not the busiest of stores, and there's a lot of backroom space. I could walk it a couple times a day that way, and it'd never be alone.

There's a few dogs here that've...been here way too long. Everyone seems to want puppies, so... [it's why he'd been given a puppy to film with. something cute and fluffy to tug on the heartstrings. never mind that he's made friends with one of the oldest dogs there.]
You know, they've got a husky here who's the biggest softie in the whole building. She's been here for years now, just because she's lost a leg.
[wait!]
Oh man, there's also this pit bull? He got dumped here because he's "dangerous". [and yes, those are legit airquotes he makes there.] He wouldn't hurt a fly. All he wants is someone to sleep on and he's happy. You don't get any of that with puppies. Not till they get older.
[look all he's saying is older dogs need love too. come adopt them all, baby.]

I love puppies, but I've never had a dog before and it's not like I've got all the time in the world. And older dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives happily.
[ Yup, definitely feeling guilty about Joe here. It's all good. No need to mention anything, he's fine.
At the mention of a pitbull, he perks up immediately. ]
Could I come? Visit? I love pitbulls. They never scared me, and they're so cute. I was thinking of coming over, have a look. Would it be okay? I'd like to meet him.

[because the sooner he comes to meet the dogs, the sooner he may (possibly) end up taking one of them back with him. whatever it takes to find the animals there a loving home.]

[ He's going to text Izzy and ask if she wants to come along and meet a possible new roommate for him and Robbie. He should also... ask Robbie... ]
Yeah. Gotta talk to my roommate and all, see if it's all square with him, and then, I'll come by.
