[ The sheepish look on his face is not one that he's proud of, especially because of what's happening immediately behind him. There's a dog on its back, all four legs in the air, and its chewing on the rope of his lasso. He only wishes that he could say this has happened to him before. ]
If anyone's seeing this, I could use a little help to get out of this...situation.
[ The dog barks. ]
I don't know if I'll get arrested for this, but I think this animal might belong to someone and is lost, so any distractions for the police would be very appreciated.
[ Another bark, like the dog approves and is enjoying its upside-down antics, kicking its legs in the air like it enjoys it. With a wary look back at the screen, Vasquez gives one last pleading look of help in a single expression. ]

No. That's not a thing. [ However, i's hard to entirely smother the chuckle in his voice. ] But why don't you? The dog looks pretty sold on you. Dogs not your kind of pet? [ Come on, Vasquez. How can you say no to that face?
Not the Jax's amusement face. But the dog's highly adorable expression. ]

[The very thought of having to take care of something every day and have it depend on you, take your money and your time, it's something that he doesn't want to do not because he doesn't want to, but because he's not sure how to take care of anyone but himself.
That's the terrifying part.]
What about you? Do you want a slightly stupid dog, who wanders into traffic?
no subject
All right. Part of me wants to say yes, I've always wanted a dog. But -- [ Jax doesn't mind the responsibility. It's just the permanency of a dog that leaves him unsettled. What's going to happen to the dog when he goes back? (And he will be) Can he bring it with him? Will he be abandoning a friend, if he can't? The thought doesn't sit well with him. And he instantly feels bad about teasing Vasquez about it (... even though, look at how that dog looks at you, dude!) ]
I mean, it can't hurt to meet. [ He finds himself saying even though common sense is blaring at him to move more cautiously. Much more cautiously.
But really. What's so bad about meeting? ]

[That assumes that Vasquez is somehow going to be able to bring the dog and lead it with any kind of success, but at this point, he'll take that over any other option. He's not about to look back at the dog and let himself get suckered by a pair of sad eyes.
He's let that happen too often in his life, it's not about to happen now.]

He doesn't say anything for a beat his fingers moving to scratch at his growing beard. His eyes settle on the dog before sliding back to Vasquez. He wonders how this'll go over but he doesn't comment. ] I'm at Gamma building. I can come down and meet you guys. [ He figures it'd be easier for all of them. ]
Just let me know when you get here.
no subject
Better to give it away.]
Gamma building, then. We'll see you there.
[In the end, Vasquez actually ends up scooping the dog into his arms when the frustration of trying to lead him along gets the better of him. Fumbling with the communication device, he calls back Jax, more frustrated than before.]
We're here. I almost threw him into traffic myself twice, but we're here.

[And it honestly doesn't take Jax long to make it outdoors.
He can't quite help the smile tugging at his mouth at the sight of the dog. However, he manages to keep himself from making a bee-line to the animal.] Hey, man. [He states after a moment of hesitation of watching the pair together.] You said the dog doesn't have a name?
no subject
[He's glaring at the dog like somehow this is his issue, even though it's definitely not, and it's Vasquez who's being moody and having issues with a dog who hasn't done anything wrong.]
Like I said, if you want to have him, you can name him. I'd be happy to give him to you.
no subject
And wait a second there, man. I said I'd think about it. We just met. I can't decide if I want a dog under a minute. What if he doesn't like me? What if he doesn't like my place?
no subject
Don't people with animals just take them in? Who cares what he thinks of it, you'd give him a home.
[To Vasquez, that's more than even he had, sometimes, so he thinks it should be a fairly clear-cut choice.]
no subject
He wants to do this right.
He doesn't think he could take it if he had to give up another animalBut he really is tempted to just say to hell with him and get himself a dog.Though he paused and looked up at Vasquez. ] But if you're worried about being responsible for the dog, about being stuck with him, you could leave him with me, and I'll take him to the police. It's no long on you, man.
no subject
That sounds like a good idea.
[He thinks that he should be getting a kind of reward for not just taking off the minute that Jax had suggested it in the first place, but there it is, a way out, and he's pretty happy to take it.]
You can call if...actually, no, no, once it's in your care, then I'm done with it. I'm happy it's alive, that it has someone, but it's not going to be me.
