[ The sheepish look on his face is not one that he's proud of, especially because of what's happening immediately behind him. There's a dog on its back, all four legs in the air, and its chewing on the rope of his lasso. He only wishes that he could say this has happened to him before. ]
If anyone's seeing this, I could use a little help to get out of this...situation.
[ The dog barks. ]
I don't know if I'll get arrested for this, but I think this animal might belong to someone and is lost, so any distractions for the police would be very appreciated.
[ Another bark, like the dog approves and is enjoying its upside-down antics, kicking its legs in the air like it enjoys it. With a wary look back at the screen, Vasquez gives one last pleading look of help in a single expression. ]

Yeah, why not. Where are you? I'll just come find you. Makes more sense then trying to give you directions by phone.

[He grimaces as the dog in question finally loosens itself out of the lasso and sits perfectly beside Vasquez, like its trained and waiting for him to do something. Little bastard, thinks Vasquez, he's got to be doing this on purpose.]

Be there in five.
[ AND OFF SHE GOES! She knows exactly where the gun range is, and while 'down the street' isn't particularly specific she just heads to the range and looks for the nearest dog. ]
Hey! Vaquero man?
no subject
What, the dog sitting on my feet didn't give me away?
[It looks sad and pathetic, but Vasquez isn't sure what it wants, honestly.]
no subject
[ At least she knows enough Spanish to know it's not an insult. If he wants to be called by his name he should probably offer it.
She stops in front of him to bend down and give the dog a good scratch behind the ears. ]
Hey little guy. How you doin? Huh? You doin good?
no subject
I've never seen a dog that isn't a wild rabid one.
[Who knows if this one is? After all, he has no idea where it's been.]
It could have fleas, you know. I found it on the street, who knows what's wrong with it.
no subject
[ She looks up to address him, but sorry, dogs are objectively interesting. She is fully absorbed in the pupper. She even gets her face right in the dog's face, pulling away only when he tries to lick her. ]
Hey, faces are not for licking!
[ He twists around to lick the hands she was using to scratch his ears, and she finally straightens again. ]
Alright, let's get this fluffer to the shelter.
no subject
[Maybe he wants to believe that it's a wild dog with no home, but it looks too comfortably fed for that. For Vasquez, who'd been something of a wild thing himself for a while, he ought to know what that's like.]
What did you call it? A fluffer?
[Sometimes, he really hates the future, honestly.]
Are you sure it's not rabid? It could be giving you all kinds of diseases, you know.
no subject
[ DOGS ARE THE BEST. ]
This is normal behavior for a not-rabid dog. And unless you're immunocompromised your chances of catching anything from one are practically nonexistent.
Come here, boy!
[ She slaps her leg a few times in summons, and the dog jumps to his feet and starts sniffing her again. She gives him another good scratch behind the ears. ]
Yeah, you are a fuzzy goober slobber monster, aren't you? What a good boy.
no subject
You do know that I found him in the street, he could have anything wrong with him.
[Probably not, but he's just protesting at this point to try and feel better about the fact that he's out of his comfort zone.]
no subject
[ Vasquez's comfort zone is clearly unimportant in the face of dogs. Still, she shoves her hands in her pockets and sets off in the direction of the shelter. She fully expects both him and the dog to follow. ]
no subject
[He's alarmed, from his tone and his face and the way he actually jumps back just a little from the girl and the dog, not wanting to get anywhere near if it's diseased. Ugh, he didn't want to deal with this today, no matter how cute the dog actually looks.]
no subject
[ She rolls her eyes, not even slowing down. She said you wouldn't catch anything. ]
no subject
But you don't think it's diseased any other way.
[Right? He needs to know this. Not that he's thinking about adopting the dog. Maybe he's thinking about visiting, though?]
no subject
He seems pretty healthy to me. But they'll check him out at the shelter, make sure he gets all his vaccines and everything. And like I said, there's not much in the way of diseases that a dog can give to a human.
no subject
[Is that a thing that people do other than keeping them around for useful purposes? He'd seen them on the ranch when he'd been working, but hasn't since.]
Or are there other animals people keep here?
no subject
And my mom was a nurse, so naturally the first time somebody said something about diseased animals I got her to tell me all about zoonosis. That's what it's called when an animal disease can be passed to humans.
no subject
[The dog keeps trying to nip at his pants and Vasquez has to struggle not to kick at him. It's trying too much to be cute and he's starting to be won over.]
no subject
[ More like they love a dog, but this one is clearly attached to him. May as well play match-maker. ]
People keep all sorts of things. Hell, people keep spiders and snakes.
no subject
[Vasquez is thinking that the future is filled with insane people, something that he's sort of believed ever since he got here, and she's not doing anything to change his mind.]
What about you? You like a man with a dog?
no subject
A hell of a lot more than I like a man with a snake.
[ She is not a fan of the creepy crawly pets. Not a bit. Also bugs make her scream. ]
no subject
[After all, who would actually want to have a snake with them? It's not something that Vasquez even wants to think about, it gives him the shivers.]
