Hey Cadelle.

[ Look who got all fancy and is doing this video from the teaching kitchen of the Chop Shop... Makeshift tri-pod and all. ]

I figured there was no time like the present to introduce myself. I'm Kendra Saunders and I'm currently working at The Chop Shop as a Culinary Instructor. I can teach anything from boiling water to making a seven course meal to woo that special person in your life. I'm offering group and private lessons... And I'm even offering a volunteering special.

The Samhain Ball is coming up, as we've been told. I was hoping to help cook some of the food offered there. And I might need help from some people. So think of this as a complimentary crash course in the world of appetizers and finger foods.

( kimberly's schedule is admittedly a little too busy between now and next friday to squeeze in extra volunteering... but a cooking class doesn't sound like a terrible idea. might be a nice way to repay a favor. )

as fun as it sounds to make a billion appetizers, a regular class is probably a safer start
do you have a set schedule or is it more of an on demand kind of thing?

[While it's less likely that Kendra would hear the echo of her broadcast playing from another room, certainly she would take note of the clatter of a metal bowl hitting the ground, wouldn't she? Unless she thinks it might be just coincidence. And it could be!

Or it could be one Rip Hunter, having gone to that very same Chop Shop to work on a sweeter treat for the Samhain Ball, listening to one of his former crew invite people over and dropping a bowl in surprise when he realizes they're in the same place.]

That's a great question!

I'm actually working on getting a more detailed schedule hammered out. However, I'm doing one morning and one afternoon lesson per weekday and then on demand until then.

[ Kendra hadn't been aware that there was someone else in the building right then, not that she paid much attention to any potential echo... nor had she even checked the other kitchens.

The sound of the bowl hitting the ground was enough to pull her away from waiting for any responses to her video. She grabs her phone from the tripod and tucks it in her pocket before going to investigate.

What she had not been expecting was to find the Captain of the Waverider himself dropping bowls in the spare kitchen. She raises an eyebrow as she crosses her arms and leans against the doorframe. ]

Rip?

Miss Saunders.

[His head tilted slightly downward, for a moment Rip might very well look akin to a child with his hand caught in the biscuit tin. Yet he musters quickly; one breath in, one mental confirmation that he's been caught, and he motions to the mess scattered about him on the floor.]

Apologies for the mess. I'll clean up and be out of your way shortly, shall I?

[Because clearly that's all to be had to it, right? Right?]

[ She's not laughing, not yet at least. Kendra pushes herself from the door frame and crosses over to the closet to grab a broom and pan. ]

You don't have to. I'm not using this kitchen.

[ She pauses and smiles a bit as she crosses over to him. ]

I can help... if you want... Or I can get out of your hair, if you'd rather go at it alone.

[Not laughing, no, but Rip thinks he sees a spark of amusement in her eyes all the same. Still--all the more reason to be impressed, he supposes, if she manages to keep it in in favor of fetching a broom.

Good thing, too. Of course it couldn't have been an empty bowl he dropped. No, now there's flour that had once been carefully measured out scattered across the floor. Luckily he'd only been measuring--a survey of the ingredients on the table, so neatly arranged, will make his intentions to bake rather clear.

He considers the offer when she makes it--but in truth, it's that very offer that makes up his mind. Kendra has always been a considerate soul, and truthfully? Rip has missed that. So he decides to swallow his prior embarrassment. Perhaps out of any of the Legends, she might be the one to keep what she's discovered a secret anyway.]

No, it's--it's alright. I could likely do with a touch of company anyway. [It's strange to be so used to being alone, but to equally get antsy when it happens for too long a period. The sound of voices in the background is why he had the network broadcasting in the first place.]

[ Kendra's pretty good at keeping secrets- better about not really gossiping. Perhaps it was because she was always so absorbed in her own thoughts that she never really chose to share everyone else's secrets.

She holds out the dustpan to him with a smile. ]

Hold this and I'll sweep it up?

[ She's glad he doesn't turn her away, it's nice to have familiar faces around... Even if reminders of home are the last things she wants to dwell on. ]

It's more fun to cook with company. [ A pause as she starts to sweep up the flour. ] When did you get here?

So, you can teach someone no matter how bad they are? I mean, I can boil water. I think.

[ Derek is probably the least functional in the kitchen. Well. There are a lot of things Derek isn't particularly good at, not that he'd admit to most of them, but if it doesn't come in a box, he probably can't figure it out. Maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have under his belt. ]

How much for the lessons...?

[ 8'D Kendra smiles and huffs out a laugh. ]

I hope I can. But there's no time like the present to find out. We can always do a trial class if you're more comfortable testing the water, so to speak, like that.

Negotiable... and depends on what you're learning really.

With this being a more trial starting period, I'm willing to do it for cost of supplies plus tip.

What about cooking for someone who can only really eat things that are basically liquified?

[ He could use some upgrades from what he's been eating since... you know. His father used to blend together raw meat, egg and such and that's what he ate. He'd never complained -- never felt he had the right to but maybe he could start to have better. ]

i think a group class just sounds like a way to horribly embarrass myself in public
but you said you do private lessons, right?

[ Buffy just looks a little sheepish, because honestly? She was never the best student in school and even her mentor would have argued she wasn't always the best student in that area either. ]

Cute, testing the water. I like that. But sure, I mean, it's probably better for both of us. I won't be offended if you think I'm a lost cause.

What if I want to learn how to make something from fresh ingredients that neither requires a microwave, nor a freezer in the preparation or storage process?

[ Although, he supposes a freezer would still count for storage if he wanted something to keep long enough, right? That's how it works even with food that isn't flash frozen and stuck in the coolers in the center aisles of the grocery store, right? ]

[ And she's pretty. Why is everyone here so goddamn gorgeous? ]

When and where can we start?

i'll help. my mom made sure i knew my way around a kitchen.
but i'll definitely be taking that crash course too
cause it's been a while.

what are you thinking on making?

I understand- we can always work up to that.

I do- at your convenience. So whenever works best for you.

I thought so. [ She grins a little, proud that her joke was received so well. ]

I doubt you're a lost cause... But we'll give it a shot and see what you think.

It's nice to meet you, Derek. We can start whenever's best for you and I have access to the Chop Shop whenever I want, so the teaching kitchens here would be best.

It's not something I'm as well versed in, but I'm open to trying. I'm sure I can find something to make meals a little more diverse and enjoyable for you. :D

I was going to go through the pantry and see what the shop has available as far as ingredients go and go from there. Tartlets, soups, crostini... I was thinking some things alone those lines.

[ If anyone can appreciate jokes like that, it's Buffy. It's possible the one thing she misses about slaying is the opportunity for puns and one-liners before staking a vampire. ]
