Hey Cadelle.
[ Look who got all fancy and is doing this video from the teaching kitchen of the Chop Shop... Makeshift tri-pod and all. ]
I figured there was no time like the present to introduce myself. I'm Kendra Saunders and I'm currently working at The Chop Shop as a Culinary Instructor. I can teach anything from boiling water to making a seven course meal to woo that special person in your life. I'm offering group and private lessons... And I'm even offering a volunteering special.
The Samhain Ball is coming up, as we've been told. I was hoping to help cook some of the food offered there. And I might need help from some people. So think of this as a complimentary crash course in the world of appetizers and finger foods.

She holds out the dustpan to him with a smile. ]
Hold this and I'll sweep it up?
[ She's glad he doesn't turn her away, it's nice to have familiar faces around... Even if reminders of home are the last things she wants to dwell on. ]
It's more fun to cook with company. [ A pause as she starts to sweep up the flour. ] When did you get here?

I'm not really in the habit of it, I'm afraid. [Cooking in company. Rip's lips tighten into what might be seen as a grin, there and gone in a steady beat. She wouldn't know about his predicament, of course—not unless one of the other Legends told her, and Sara's been the only one to learn exactly when Rip has been drawn from.
Yet even she doesn't know of the hobby he'd developed over the last year.]
Oh, not long before your broadcast, actually. I wasn't aware you were employed here. [A convenient subject change, pulling focus away from himself and onto Kendra. Far safer that way.]

Thanks.
[ For holding the pan, that is. He might not often cook with company, but maybe he'd make the exception today. ]
Would you have avoided coming if you did know? [ It wasn't accusatory, just curious... ]

Perhaps he should have expected it. He doesn't; for a moment he turns to look at her, then turns his eyes down, holding the full dustpan all the while.]
…That's no reason to avoid this place, is it? [He doesn't quite manage a grin, nor is it a true answer to her question—yet it is still true. Rip knows it, and as he at last empties the pan, he lets out a soft sigh.]
I won't go into details for obvious reasons, but…I've recently come off a hard time in our world. [Doomworld, a year spent without the contact of another human, days gone by in drunken stupor. Not only is it odd to not be physically alone while surrounded by cake-making materials, it's equally strange to be sober. The assumption that Rip and Kendra are from different times is a convenient excuse to avoid saying any of that.
He taps the pan to ensure it's empty, then heads back across the room.] Baking is a, ah, recent hobby that I've picked up, and equally that no one on our team knows about. I simply intended to keep it that way for the time being.

Still, she watches him pause, turn to look at her without looking at her long at all, then continue.]
You tell me.
[ It's hard to gauge just how anyone feels around here, but Rip is more reserved... A lot like she is. Would he have actively avoided the shop if he knew she was here? She wasn't entirely sure... ]
I respect that. [ She attempts a small smile, comforting rather than actually bright and cheery. ] I won't tell anyone your secret, promise. And if you'd rather I leave, I understand that too.
no subject
Perhaps now, he should be more willing to welcome it here, too.]
Well. What's done is done either way. [Even if he would have made other plans, he can't now, and part of him understands that it's for the best. It's makes it easier to shake his head when she offers to leave.]
It's quite alright. I could likely do with a bit of company anyway. [Certainly Sara seems to think so; she's already left him half a dozen messages demanding his presence at the gala.] And a secondary taster just to make sure nothing goes wrong with the mix.
