[ Gathering information will help him in the long run. Especially knowing what sort of darkness or magic is swirling about in this place. Eudio was vastly different. No tolerance for certain things. This place seems to be a bit different. Still the same consequences if one were to step out of line, but a different sort of reaction you could say. Easier to hide in the nooks and the crannies about. ]

I've a question for the wonderful citizens of this cuddly city? What sort of familiarity do you have with magic? Light and dark. Good or bad. I'm curious as to what you lot know?

[ If they know about the Dark One and his weakness. He'd prefer to keep that bit under wraps. Excalibur isn't here and he'd rather it stay away. He's here to cut himself away from the bloody sword. ]

Oh? Well, I don't suppose it's near as popular as it once was. And it's a little more allegorical now.

When I was a boy, of course. Those always had magic.

Well, they're all very much real, mate. Hate to break it to you. But they're as living and breathing as you. Complete with magic.

I don't suppose you're speaking in the metaphorical sense.

This whole...transportation to another world and fulfilling a bargain with physical contact should make me be able to suspend my belief more but this is something that I'll have to chew on awhile.

Always been strange to me. You lot make a wishand get sent to a whole new world. Get plopped down next to people with a whole manner of powers or abilities, but fairytales being real is the sticking point.

What makes that more unbelievable than everything else?

Well, I don't know. I've always thought of them as timeless, untouchable pillars of culture and values. The world can change, be distorted and tainted but the princesses, knights and dragons all have an order and a place.

Not sure how else to articulate it. And really, by our logic it doesn't make sense.

I would not put them so high up, mate, because you'll find that not everything was put into those stories. Bits and pieces left out. The bloody bits. The ones where not quite everyone lived so happily ever after.

And knights? Well, they're the worst of all.

That makes sense. They're a product of their time. And I know them the way they were told to me in a time before I cuold read. Like anything I'm sure there's issues, problems and unbalanced endings.

You sound like you're speaking from experience.

Aye. I've had some recent dealings with less than honorable knights.

Don't trust King Arthur.

Is that why you're asking people about fairytales? To give advice and warnings?

Bit of both. Though I asked about magic, mate.


It's important to my world. Knowing how it works in others does aid me quite a bit.

I never thought about magic as something important. But uh who's to say? Magic and miracles go hand in hand. I believe in miracles.

In my experience miracles aren't going to happen. It's magic that fuels them.

Is divinity considered magic by this line of thinking? God isn't a magician.

I've never seen a God reach down to lend me aid when I needed it most. Gods simply watch. Watch and wait.

As a man who has died and had my heart crushed squeezed in front of me several times before that I'd say yes. It does seem like that.

My experiences aren't the same as yours. And there has been some pretty awful things.

And still there have been some...remarkably wonderful things.
