so, uh what's everyone's take on pets on this place? has that been already been covered? yknow with the whole this place's just like a pit stop, for some of us [ he feels he should clarify. he doesn't know your lives. ], til we get that wish.

[ like it's one thing to start something with someone who knows and understands you're gonna leave. it's another thing to do that to an animal who has come to depend on you. ]

I've been thinking about that a lot lately, too, actually...

( Because yeah, maybe a cat would be nice...as long as she knew it would either come home with her or would be able to be re-homed to someone who would love it just as much in her absence when she goes. )

Yeah, exactly. Plus, here, I'm not so busy. I'd actually have time for a pet.

( And she's always wanted one. There's that, too. But mostly the time, thing, because if she had the time back home, she would have already gotten one by now. )

That I don't know. It'd be worth asking, I would think? If you want a pet badly enough,
it would be, certainly.

...how are you, Jax? I haven't seen you in a little while.

( But she's heard. She just doesn't know whether Jax has lived that all just yet and that's the very last thing she wants to be the one to tell him, if not. )

[and if not? well, there's going to be a fight going down. there's no way he's leaving his ~~babies~~ dogs behind]

[ maybes are where he's at, barry. he could think of reasons for 'why couldn't they take them home' but he could think of reasons of 'why they couldn't take them home'. how would he explain showing up back where he started with a dog on hand?

then again tales have been told of what barry allen has done and would do for what he loves and cares for. so jax .... is actually slightly reassured, despite the uncertainty. just a small bit. ]

you've been here longer than i have. have you heard about anybody taking things and pets back with them?

[ but then again. wouldn't barry have confirmed that if he had? jax is five seconds away from contacting a cadelle official. ]

I don't plan on staying here forever, either, but I got a dog here and I love him, and I'm willing to have a bigger wish to fill to be able to take him home with me.

[ jax has a major 'doh' moment. another wish! it is obvious, straightforward, and -- that simple? right? jax feels a strong flash of skepticism -- for several reasons -- but though baby can't see it, he's helped turned jax's frown upside down.

hat ain't a bad idea at all, man. [ there were moments jax felt a restless energy from being in cadelle. (it was for a good purpose, hell he liked it here. and, a bit grudgingly, mick was right -- and while this was no aruba, it was a needed vacation. but he was still the guy who couldn't settle in college ~~though he didn't know it quite yet~~ for want of an adventure and saving lives, helping people. he was his father's son, after all. ~~both of them.~~) but he thinks he'd deal with it longer for that dog. ] i mean there's no way they could say no to that.

what kind of pet do you want? the shelter has all kind of rescues, I got Otis there.

I think it's worth it, especially if you get a rescue. It's like... a good deed in itself, you know?

i never had a pet before i got here and i thought i was going to completely fail but. Otis seems to be doing well.

although be careful if yours is too charming they might set out to steal your girl

There's an animal shelter that takes some in too.

[But it's rude, and people shouldn't get a pet just to get a pet only to abandon it later, but, you know, the option should be put out there.]

If you want time with a dog or something but don't want to actually commit, they're always looking for people to help with walking and stuff.

i do want to commit. [ he's near one hundred on that fact, most of his reluctance was the logistics. it still is.

he's with you on that malia. but she's also right, it is an option. and he should seriously consider that than frowning heavily at her through his phone. ]

that the only things they got volunteers doing?

It's the only thing I do.

[She does not clean out cages or anything like that, she just wants to play with the dogs. There are Reasons why she doesn't have a pet.]

There are some volunteer vets though and other people might take care of different stuff.

This is because of me, isn't it? Just tell the truth, you couldn't bear to leave the dog at the shelter all alone, could you?

[ Jax scrunches his nose. And so what if he couldn't? Those had been some mighty puppy dog eyes. ]

and he's already rented out all the books he can find. he hasn't gotten into buying him toys yet. that would be committing. ]

[Vasquez can barely even keep himself from laughing because of course Jax gave in. He's only surprised that maybe it took so long for him to admit it.]

Just because I don't want a dog doesn't mean I haven't seen how to take care of animals, you know.

[After all, he's happy to hand them off, but he can enjoy being around them. He also knows when someone is being controlled by something.]
