Hi. I'm... Dr. Spencer Reid. At home, I work with the FBI as a behavioral analyst, or profiler. I'm trying to figure out what to... do with myself here.

[ Reid is a thin, young-looking man with too-wide eyes and nearly shoulder-length unkempt hair. That combined with the cardigan, tie, and lightly patterned button-up makes him look extremely dated. It's not hard to believe him as a federal employee by clothes alone, although his age is constantly remarked upon.

He doesn't sound uncertain about addressing the wider audience of the network-- although he is, and especially about using technology this way-- but he does sound like he's choosing his words with care, enunciating clearly and with even, unhurried pacing. ]

If there's anyone that currently works for the local police, I'd like to speak with you regarding whether you think there's a use for my skills in that environment. I have done field work, but I wouldn't say it's my strong suit. Otherwise I'm considering taking up teaching at the university. I've been a TA for undergraduate classes before, although I think I'm better suited to leading graduate-level seminars. If anyone currently takes classes there, it would be helpful to hear about your experiences.

... I also noticed they're looking for librarians at the public library. Uh. I don't think that alone would keep me... sufficiently occupied, but. I could do it.

I'd like to optimize my time here by putting my skills wherever they're most needed. So I'm open to other suggestions. And-- looking for a physical therapist. And possibly an orthopedist. Thank you.

[ It cuts off abruptly. Reid can do public speaking, but it's far from his favorite past time. ]

I'm twenty-eight. [ Reid has that face that means he's heard this a hundred times and is gamely not taking offense. That doesn't mean he wants to encourage it, though, so he's a little succinct. ] I started early.

I was just assisting as part of my PhD funding, but mostly entry level courses in math, chemistry, and physics. They have the most grading to do.

[ A PhD? Dear god this guy's done a lot in a quarter of a century. If he wasn't constantly overseas back home, Buck might be a tad jealous. ]

From PhD to FBI, huh. Guess Hoover's got some high standards! Just what did you get a phD in exactly? Is it required for the FBI?

[ Honestly, he has no clue. With his police record, there's no way he would have been able to get into law enforcement even if he wanted. The Army was his route, and boy did he wear blinders. ]

Oh, no, it's not required. I hold doctorates in mathematics, chemistry, and engineering, but the minimum requirement is a bachelors degree.

[ There's a substantial amount of FBI agents that are veterans, so don't give up the dream, Bucky. ]

Oh, so you're the overachieving type. [ lul. ] I getcha.

[ Naah, his dreams are dead. Just let him go on to be an evil Commie. ]

[ Guilty as charged. Uh. ]

Why, were you thinking of joining up? Or taking classes?

Uh, not really. I was never good at school. The pace is just too slow and, well, pretty useless if you ask me. I can read a textbook all on my own, you know?

[doctoral]

[ Too slow, huh? Maybe someone more intelligent than he wants to let on, or has had opportunity for? ]

I like reading textbooks. [ But Reid knows that's weird. He also reads them in about ten minutes. ] I'm planning on doing some one-day workshops on special topics if you think that would work better for you.

Huh, I dunno. Depends on what you're gonna talk about.

[ Bucky doesn't consider himself to be a bookworm or an intellectual by any means. But picking up new concepts, languages, mathematics has been easy for him. Comparatively speaking. Steve blows him away, but he's a super soldier. So does that really count? ]

I'm taking requests. If there's ever been anything you wanted to learn, I can either teach it or learn it and then teach everyone else.

[ This is a bold statement that he rattles off without change in inflection or apparent pride. ]

Ha! Alright. [ Pretty ballsy statement. Bucky's all about that. ] I'll have to think about it. Most topics ain't exactly applicable to me.

[ And the ones that are are violent and already taken to heart and muscle memory. ]

Hey, what about languages? You know any besides English?

[doctoral]

[ Does Reid know languages besides English... ] Quite a few. Mostly reading, not speaking.

Why wouldn't most topics be applicable to you?

Oh. [ That's a shame. Bucky can speak several languages, but he can't read or write them too well. ] Maybe we should swap then. I'm good with conversation, not reading.

Uhh, well my occupation has kind of a narrow skill set. I'm a soldier for the US Army. [ So organic chemistry or religious studies don't help him kill any better. ] Sometimes interpreter.

[doctoral]

Oh, interpreting must be useful in that occupation. [ Reid doesn't appear to have much of a reaction to this revelation, although privately he's amused with the reversal: good with reading, not conversation is how plenty of people would summarize him. ]

Or maybe we could teach it together? [ he suggests. ] Conversation would take me a while to pick up.

[ Ha ha ha. Probably only by Reid's standards. ]

Uhh, yeah. Good for information gathering. Definitely.

Uhh, I dunno about that! I mean, I'm a suave guy, but teaching... I don't do well speaking in front of crowds.

[ Like Reid hasn't run an interrogation before. He's not the best at them, but he has been trained in it, and has the manual memorized. ]

I doubt we'd get a huge turnout. I can handle the materials, planning, and presentation-- having help with the conversation skills would be great. You'd just talk to people.

[ His first response is "Is there money in it?", but then he remembered good deeds go a long way to getting his wishes come true. ]

Latin, Archaic Greek, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Russian, and a few others on a more rudimentary level.
