Hi. I'm... Dr. Spencer Reid. At home, I work with the FBI as a behavioral analyst, or profiler. I'm trying to figure out what to... do with myself here.
[ Reid is a thin, young-looking man with too-wide eyes and nearly shoulder-length unkempt hair. That combined with the cardigan, tie, and lightly patterned button-up makes him look extremely dated. It's not hard to believe him as a federal employee by clothes alone, although his age is constantly remarked upon.
He doesn't sound uncertain about addressing the wider audience of the network-- although he is, and especially about using technology this way-- but he does sound like he's choosing his words with care, enunciating clearly and with even, unhurried pacing. ]
If there's anyone that currently works for the local police, I'd like to speak with you regarding whether you think there's a use for my skills in that environment. I have done field work, but I wouldn't say it's my strong suit. Otherwise I'm considering taking up teaching at the university. I've been a TA for undergraduate classes before, although I think I'm better suited to leading graduate-level seminars. If anyone currently takes classes there, it would be helpful to hear about your experiences.
... I also noticed they're looking for librarians at the public library. Uh. I don't think that alone would keep me... sufficiently occupied, but. I could do it.
I'd like to optimize my time here by putting my skills wherever they're most needed. So I'm open to other suggestions. And-- looking for a physical therapist. And possibly an orthopedist. Thank you.
[ It cuts off abruptly. Reid can do public speaking, but it's far from his favorite past time. ]

The Behavioral Analysis Unit provides support to all levels of law enforcement across the United States on cases they don't feel equipped to handle with their resources alone. Typically the cases we work include serial murders, sexual assaults, abductions, and anything else requiring a time-sensitive response or where locals have hit a wall on leads.
The techniques we employ include victimology, psychology, statistics, and geographic profiling, along with more standard law enforcement techniques such as crime scene analysis. We compose a profile, a list of the offender's likely characteristics, and present it to the local police to assist in their investigation. We also provide on-the-ground support with interviewing persons of interest to the investigation and responding to crises.
It's... more or less, whatever's called for on the case.

( Also, she may or may not give him any credit for it, but she may have decided that she probably should go back to school, at least part time, just to keep her mind sharp while she's here. Since she's 99.9% sure the credits won't be transferable to MIT back home, she's just going to study another science just to study it. Maybe astrophysics; she likes that one. )
Additionally, I'll keep an eye out for the physical therapist thing, too. :(

Thanks. I can put together a reasonable rehab schedule from reference materials, but I'd really like to get my leg back to full functioning, and there's a critical window for recovery.

Are you in a lot of pain?
( Because she could potentially call in a favor from her Alpha, if so... Maybe. )
I'm sure the hospital has someone on staff that could point you in the right direction, either way.

And I'm not exactly a physical therapist, but if the injury is causing you things like pain or interrupted sleep, I can help with those.

[ his interest is promptly piqued ] Help how?

I don't feel comfortable accepting a treatment I don't understand, [ he says promptly, without offense, only interest colored with a healthy skepticism. ] Would you be able to adequately explain the process to me?

Let me see if I have that book with me—yes, yes I do. [He returns immediately with a volume bound in rust-colored leather and flips through it with the ease of long familiarity.] Your cells need a certain amount of energy to do the healing they need to do, yes? This particular group of spells supplies that energy as long as it's needed.

He hasn't even been able to change into something more current (or comfortable) than the World War I-era German uniform he arrived in, due to the recentness of his own arrival.]
What's an FBI behavioral analyst?

I'm part of a federal law enforcement unit that provides investigative and operational support to local task forces in solving complex, time-sensitive, and often especially violent or large-scale crimes.
[ A beat. Okay no wait, he can't not comment. Mildly, ] You have a very American accent for being part of the Deutsches Heer. [ Reid does a fairly passable German accent, too. ]

but then, the mention of physical therapy, and she's right back with him like a student jolted from an inopportune mid-seminar nap, head jolts and all. )
— are you in pain?

Reid grimaces. ] I uh... was shot in the leg, a few months ago. I'm recovering.
[ Yes, he's in pain. No, he's unlikely to admit it. That's not some misplaced machismo, though, that's Reid having learned a lot of hard lessons about admitting weakness or waiting for someone else to take care of him. ]

( succinct, but no less honest. caroline's been shot fairly recently in her own timeline back home, so she knows the pain. the vervain lacing meant she'd suffered through the pain just like she would have when she was human.
here, though, the pain's long gone. while no one came to her aid, maybe she can come to his. if he'd like her to. )

[and he actually remembered to introduce himself this time. he's counting that as a win.]
You'd probably be better off talking to the Captain, but I'm a CSI at the CPD if that helps? I mean, there's not all that much to do here considering how little crime takes place. But he likes to keep the department fully staffed anyway, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind talking to you about joining.

[ Spencer doesn't quite sound perfunctory about the social nicety but it definitely comes off just a tad bit rehearsed. He meets a lot of people.
Finally getting to meet someone in the local law enforcement, though, makes him perk up. ] Who's the Captain and how do I find them? I was considering requesting to sign on in a consultant capacity. I'd probably just get in the way for most smaller crimes, but if there's anything they thought I could help on, I'd like to be called in.
no subject
[okay, so maybe it's more a case of he doesn't like being interrupted by overly happy csi's in the middle of the day. but what can you do?]
I don't see why that shouldn't be possible though. I know I'm not in charge of hiring or anything, but it can't hurt to have someone with your background on the team.

So just what lectures did you teach at university? Not that I ever got that far, but...
[ Hey, color him curious. ]

I was just assisting as part of my PhD funding, but mostly entry level courses in math, chemistry, and physics. They have the most grading to do.
