[The video turns on, and Steve studies the screen for a moment, looking for a hint that it's on and working like it should be.] Is this how I do this? [Someone pointed out the basics to him, but it will take a while before he's used to the idea of something that's a combination of a phone and a moving picture.

Now that he's said that, he doesn't know what to follow it with. He's used to observing a situation without drawing attention to himself.] Hello. My name's Steve. Steve Trevor. Captain. I'm a pilot with the American Expeditionary Forces.

[Eagle-eyed history buffs will notice that his uniform is that of a German officer, not an American one, but his accent is fully American.]

Was a pilot, I suppose. [Since the war's not going on here.] There's nowhere in the city looking to hire a pilot, is there?

[Even if someone were looking for a pilot, he couldn't fly modern planes anyway.]

( Diana laughs at that. There's no way that anyone can find Themyscira and it had only been by accident that Steve had. )

I wish him luck but I am shocked even you found it.

Things would be a lot different if I hadn't, though.

Somehow you managed to get to a place where the veil was thin. I don't know how or why, but I assume that Zeus probably had something to do with it. You wouldn't have found it if he hadn't wanted you to find it.

Zeus. Right. [He's still getting used to the idea of Ares. Zeus is going to take awhile.] You wouldn't have left if I hadn't showed up. All of the things that happened after you left wouldn't have happened.

You don't sound so sure about Zeus. Really? After all you've seen?

Was that really Ares?

[ischyros]

It was.

( Diana dips her head down, saddened all over again. )'

Your sacrifice saved so many, Steve. It helped defeat him.

[icansavetoday]

It didn't stop worse things from happening later though.

[Guess who's been talking to people.]

[ischyros]

Worse? What could be worse than the war to end all wars? How could it have happened again?

[icansavetoday]

You don't know? Something about genocide, and that it was even worse for civilians the next time.

[But he would like answers to those questions too.]

Strange, no - we are creatures of habit. I'm going back to what I know and do best, here, as well.

[ Back to the library it is for him. ]

But I'm just curious, I guess, what you'd do if you weren't a soldier.

It does get better, after. There are enough technological advanced that casualties got cut way down.

I don't know. I haven't really given thought to what happens after the war. [And now it's a moot point anyway.]

Well I suppose that's something.

That's true of many things.

Kinda like escaping certain death by finding yourself in a weird city that runs on cuddles. Amiright?

Kind of like that too.

I think it's kinda cool. Majorly weird, obviously, but cool too.

Do people say 'cool' yet, when you're from?

( Now she knows which war he means. The problem is, there's been many wars since 1918 and they've all been terrible. The one that Steve refers to is the second Great War, the second War to End All Wars. It's something she's going to have to keep to herself that there's been more than one horrible war, that this keeps happening again and again. )

Oh, yes, I am aware of that one. It was terrible. I took some part in it but it was too difficult to throw myself into it with an open heart the way I did in the war with you. I had to reserve some of myself to keep from wanting to save everyone and everything.

[There are still so many details he doesn't know about, but maybe one day he'll get someone to tell him. Or find answers some other way.]

I can imagine how hard that was for you to do.
