So...just curious, what are some holiday traditions for you guys? I think it's a good way to get to know more about one another.

I don't remember much about holidays, and I can hardly say what the one I do remember was all about. I just remember a massive celebration, it was like the whole planet was throwing a party.

A planet wide celebration sounds pretty awesome.

For a tiny child, it was. I remember the entire sky lighting up with fireworks.

That must have been beautiful. We do fireworks too, usually for Fourth of July but sometimes other holidays.

It's an important holiday, then, this Fourth of July?

It celebrates my country's independence from England.

[made_of_stars]

You might as well be speaking another language in regards to whatever England is, but independence - that's always worthy of a celebration.

It's a country. Long story.

Yes, sounds like.

So, these holidays of yours - which one is your favorite?

[angelpants]

Christmas is a lot of fun.

[made_of_stars]

[Ah, Christmas! She's heard a little about it - even if she still doesn't quite understand.]

That's the one where you give strangers gifts just because it's the nice thing to do, right?

[angelpants]

And your family and stuff too. And it's just a fun season, plus great food.

It's been just me for quite some time, but that does sound lovely.

[angelpants]

Maybe the city will throw us a Christmas Ball or something.

[made_of_stars]

If only because it might be my only chance to celebrate it properly ... I'd like that.

I think it'd be so much fun.

But that's not for a little while yet, or so I thought?

So, what would be fun to do before then?

I think someone is doing a secret santa!

The gift thing, yeah. I take it you'll be taking part? Maybe I will, too.

my family wasn't really big on actual traditions
mostly just the ones that were for show

like family pictures for the annual "look at how much better we are than you" christmas card

( grinch-lite? well, maybe. but she's not opposed to a more traditional bout of christmas cheer this year. )

Then I say you make some of your own.

What's something you've always wanted to do?

honestly? i have no idea
i was never really into it
my parents spent all of christmas break trying to one-up everyone else they knew

it also doesn't really snow that much in california so i never got the whole winter wonderland thing

It snows a lot in Colorado. Do you think it will snow here too?

I'd really like if it did, might make it more Christmasy and whatnot

my brothers and i build blanket forts and watch movies on my laptop.
i like to avoid the rest of my family whenever possible.

regular family dinners are awkward enough. my parents insist on knowing everything about me.

add in the holiday stress and extended relatives and it just goes from irritating to intolerable.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

not this year at least.
but i do miss my brothers.

what about you? what do you do for the holidays?

Mainly hang out with my sister. She drinks a lot.

would it be weird to admit that i've only really had drinks a few times? and never on a special occasion?

[unless on a mountain top with four other teenagers in front of a bonfire counts as a special celebration...]

Well you're young so that's not too surprising.

i'm not that young.

[who are we kidding here. she is probably comparatively speaking that young. just legal blah blah and so on.]

You're younger than I am, and I'm still pretty young.

Okay, you sound younger than me. But it doesn't really matter. You should still make your own traditions.

Now that would be really cool.
