[It wasn't as though Jyn hadn't woken up in stranger places - but usually she had some sort of recollection about getting herself into those situations. This was a mystery. As these things went, her new accommodations weren't half bad - not that she's done much exploration as of yet, although that was probably going to become a necessity sooner rather than later.
So, she spent time learning her device, instead, at least enough to get by. It was much like a comm unit and a datapad put together, so it wasn't difficult to navigate. Jyn didn't speak much, not yet, but she did watch some videos and tried to gauge the general feel of her new surroundings.
Thankfully, of all the videos she'd watched, nobody had seemed like a threat, and that was something she was unused to. Maybe it was time to ... introduce herself.
If she was uncertain, it didn't much show, her expression carefully schooled into something resembling a calm that she wasn't really feeling.].
New and ... feeling kind of lost. I guess that's nothing new. Just wondering - how do you go about ... starting again when you've never really had anything of your own to begin with?

video. un: kara.
when kara finally does reply, her own voice is soft, quiet, an attempt at gentleness in greeting. )
You take things one day at a time. Say hello to one new person, try one new thing, until you feel comfortable. ( a brief pause, and kara smiles, fingertips tapping a low rhythm out of the frame. ) This is a really good start.

When she returns Kara's smile, it's slight, and it's fleeting, but it's there.]
And ... hope for the best? [She asks, a wry tone coloring her voice. Easier said than done for someone more used to keeping to corners and shadows and working by herself.] Has that worked for you?

( luckily for jyn, she's hardly the first reserved or skeptical person kara's run across in her time in the multiverse. there's plenty of reassurance in her countenance. )
It has. It can be kind of scary to start all by yourself, but... well, you're not really alone here, you know? We're all here together. And everybody — ( well, no, not everybody. ) — I mean, most people are really nice and welcoming.
What sorts of things do you like to do? That might be a good way to meet people.

[She'd like to think that she's good at reading people, and although they're not face to face and talking, not really, Jyn finds herself thinking that Kara is what she says that most people are - really nice and welcoming. And that helps somewhat in lessening some of Jyn's worries and fears.
Of course not everyone is going to be the same, but Jyn's sure (she thinks) that she can take care of herself, that she'll be able to handle whatever else just so happens to come her way.
She laughs softly and shrugs thin shoulders that feel like they've been carrying the weight of the universe since she was far too young for that sort of thing.]
It also helps to know that I'm not alone. [Jyn smiles then - something small and fleeting, but real enough.] I'm sure not everyone would have taken the time to reassure me like this, so ... thank you for that.
Ah - [she tries, and falters] I haven't had much time nor opportunity for hobbies. I don't think the types of things that I'm good at are welcomed in a place like this.

This is a good place to start, then. There's always something going on, and there's so many things to try. Like... food, for example — do you have a favorite food from home, or maybe something you've always wanted to try? ( and even though jyn didn't ask for a recommendation, she's going to get one. ) The potstickers at Wok and Roll are really good, by the way.

Maybe ... just this once ... she can let her guard down enough to ... form an alliance. She can't quite bring herself to think that maybe she can make a friend, too. She's not there yet. Give her time, and she might get there.
Jyn opens her mouth. Jyn closes her mouth. A tiny knot forms between her brows.]
A favorite food? No - I ... mostly just eat because I have to, not for any enjoyment. I mean, I have enjoyed food, but ... not enough to say that I've got a favorite.
... What's a potsticker?
[Please, teach this poor little thing about the joys of food, and of eating it.]

Potstickers are... well, they're delicious, first of all. It's usually a dough or a thin wrapper around the outside, and then some kind of filling. I like pork or veggie potstickers best, but there are all kinds depending on who makes them, and they're usually either fried or steamed. I like pan-fried potstickers, personally, so they're crispy but not too crispy...
( her thoughts stop abruptly when she realizes just how long she's been babbling on about potstickers. listen, she just really likes them. )
Wok and Roll makes really good ones.

She doesn't know how long she'll be here, but maybe ... maybe she'll have the chance to do the sorts of things she's never had the chance to before. Including sampling and enjoying the available cuisine.
If she's a little embarrassed when her stomach growls just to hear the description, it hardly shows on her expression.]
Okay, those sound fantastic. Wok and Roll, you say? I might have to make a visit.

( if she wasn't already gainfully employed, kara could probably make a decent living as a food guide, pointing out the best places to grab certain dishes here in cadelle. )
I usually order one of everything, but I have a pretty big appetite... ( so that may not be a good recommendation. strike that. ) Their lunch specials are great, though!

[Starting with the food. Why not try to enjoy herself a little? Doesn't make sense to ... hide away forever.]
I'm sure I could do the same - just ... not all at once. Thank you, I appreciate your assistance.
