( the feed opens to the view of a young blonde woman, currently seated at a bright white desk in what's unmistakably a former storage room turned office space. they hadn't exactly given her the space... but it wasn't being used, so she's commandeered it for herself. nobody's told her not to, either, so what's the harm?

she's smiling, today, pearly whites beamed into the general direction of the camera; there's a natural friendliness to her tone that makes it clear she's particularly enthusiastic about this. )

Hi, everyone. My name is Caroline Forbes, and I'm broadcasting today on behalf of Cadelle's Social Committee. If you've never heard of them, they're — well, we're, obviously — the administrative team that puts together all of the great events here in the city that we all go to, like the Match Meetings or the — ( a pause, as her gaze dips down to consult a list on her desk ) — the ball?

( rude. she can't believe she missed out on a ball. well, no matter. they'll just have to have another one. not that caroline's coffee fetching and to-do list accomplishing really gives her the power to determine the social calendar, but a girl can dream. )

Right. So, the spring Energy Festival is coming up later this month, and we're looking for volunteers to help set up and run the different booths and festival experiences. Especially from anybody tall, because we only have three ladders and these banners just won't hang themselves. Or, I guess, if you can fly, that might be helpful too...

( a snort of laughter from someone in the background, and caroline's brows furrow together in frustration for just a moment before she's right back at it, focused and determined to get to the end of her message. )

[He knows where his skills lie and at six foot four and very long limbs, Vasquez's lankiness definitely comes in handy for things like banners where you need to reach, though he does think it would be better to get to fly.]

[So this is Caroline. Is this the same Caroline that Reid had mentioned? If so, Magnus would very much like to talk with her. In addition, though, a festival is in need of festivities. He isn't particularly tall and he can't fly, but magically floating banners into place might just do nicely.

The backdrop of his answer is his shop, a few half-covered mannequins with particularly sparkly materials. Making a bespoke suit for Nate during his difficulties had given him the idea of creating a few full pieces from scratch in addition to altering what people bring to him.]

Decorating, you say. That sounds like a delightful way to spend the afternoon.

( Lydia looks a little put out when her feed comes on. )

They had a ball here? And I missed it? Rude.

( Her nose wrinkles and she shakes her head. )

Anyway, I'll help, sweetie. What is the Energy Festival, do you know yet?

[gasping]

Yeah, you heard me.

( not-so-secretly, caroline's delighted to have help. especially attractive help from cowboys. have a grin. )

What were you hoping for? Well, aside from actual cash payment, since that's a little above my paygrade.

[gasping]

I could definitely use the help! The booths all need a little pizzazz, and there's a million sequins that still need to be attached.

( is that glitter on the suit jacket? she's enamored already. )

I guess you're not opposed to shiny things?

[gasping]

You and me both!

( just another reason to host another one. next staff meeting, caroline is totally bringing it up. )

I think it's kind of like a state fair? Except, obviously it's for the city, and they really want people to generate energy. ( she'd go into more specifics, but being an underling mostly tasked with fetching coffee and running errands doesn't give her access to all the secrets of the city's administration. yet. ) There was one about the harvest, so there was a food drive and a knitting circle and a party for people to get to know each other...

If this Energy Festival is about a way to build up some energy, you totally need a kissing booth.

[gasping]

( a brow quirked in his direction. not that she hasn't had the thought, but caroline's not exactly in charge, as much as she'd like to be. )

Oh, yeah? Are you volunteering to be the host?

[sanguinescry]

Okay well at least I'm not the only one, but still. Not cool. We need to organize another one, screw the city's committee on it, honestly, if we have to do it ourselves. I am not above it.

( She gives a little facial shrug thoughtfully, but then as Caroline trails off, her eyebrows lift. )

Meaning what it sounds like it implies or literally just to get to know one another...?

( Because that might have perked her up rather a lot. Lydia might not have gotten around much with the men on the okCuddle, but she also hasn't tried yet. So sue her, the locals are easier and she's been a little lazy about it. She won't be lazy forever. )

[gasping]

It is totally on my to-do list. Seriously. The last one would have been right after my birthday, so there better be another one.

( she is not above using her birthday as an excuse. or, in all reality, a random tuesday. getting dolled up shouldn't require a reason. )

And, yeah, I'm pretty sure it means exactly what you think it means. The summer one? Hot and cold magic foods, gorgeous tents, lots of pillows and blankets to get cozy on — there aren't very many pictures because apparently Instagram wasn't a thing yet, but it looked amazing.

[he's laughing because he totally doesn't see himself as a ladies man at all]

There are a lot better choices in the city to make the booth lucrative.

Well keep me in the loop, sweetie, seriously. I mean, if we missed your birthday, you're welcome to use mine as an excuse. It's March 19, so... Oh, wow, actually I should start planning something by now, anyway, I'm way behind...

( Damn, time flies... )

That sounds like my kind of party, I don't know about you. Think this one will be much like that one? Because I am so here for it.

[gasping]

Wait, seriously? ( a quick consult of her desk calendar, and caroline adds: ) That's the day before the Energy Festival starts! We definitely have to go now.

( which gives her an idea. )

Maybe we should keep a list of people's birthdays. It'd be an excuse to throw more parties, right?

[gasping]

Well, you can't just say that and not suggest a host, then. I guess you better go find somebody to lay smooches on the city for charity!

[sanguinescry]

Seriously. Oh, perfect! I was going to go anyway, but yeah, now it's for sure not even optional.

( Her eyebrows lift, first with question and then with interest as she starts to smile. )

I like that. I'm one hundred percent on the same page. I think we should do it.

I think maybe I could settle for food.

[That's an understatement, too, because you could feed Vasquez with just about anything and he'd be content, because he tends to have a bottomless stomach.]

So, maybe a steak, some fries, and I can reach up and hang whatever banners you like?

[Glitter on the jacket, sometimes glitter on the eyes, he's not opposed to putting glitter anywhere it's needed.]

I thrive on shiny things, and I'm not at all afraid of sequins. Are you still working today? Tomorrow morning first thing?

[he's thinking. There's a few guys he could probably throw under the bus, i mean volunteer...]

Let me talk to a few guys.

[gasping]

That's a shock. ( the driest of tones. ) You, hungry? Call the news.

( but she's not saying no either. )

Our budget's pretty small, but maybe I can make that happen. It might be more home cooked than steakhouse, though.

[gasping]

I'm here until five! And then I come in at ten tomorrow, but we have a staff meeting... ( she trails off for a moment, consulting her calendar, before she pipes back up again. ) Afternoon tomorrow, though, I'm free!

( she'll be happy to have the help. she might be superstrong and capable of sprinting at superhuman speeds, but decorating an entire festival alone is still a bit of an overwhelming task. )

If you have any friends who are also into sequins and decorating, please bring them with you.

[gasping]

Awesome. I'll see if there's anything like that already in place. I'm sure they must have some kind of registry or calendar system here...

Hey, do they pay you over there? Because right now, I'm just taking a couple of classes and volunteering. I was TAing for Dr. Reid, but... I'm finding myself with some extra time on my hands and let me just tell you, Care...I think if we put our heads together and teamed up, we could be running that show sooner than later.

[gasping]

Volunteering? ( please. like caroline would fetch somebody's coffee just for giggles. ) Yeah, no, they definitely pay me.

( and she could use a coworker who shares her control-freak tendencies. )

I needed to get a job so I could move out at some point. The apartment they gave me is barely the size of my closet back home...

[sanguinescry]

I've been volunteering at the women's center, but I'm looking for like a paying thing. Think that they'd take me on if I pout my lips at the right person and give them my Disney Princess eyes?

Ugh, I know. Same.

I can deal with any kind of food. Besides, the more home-cooked, that means there's usually more.

[After all, then no one has to go out and pay for a small plate that's deemed to be 'enough'. For Vasquez, who has a bottomless stomach sometimes, he always finds that they're very mistaken in what they give him.]

I'm happy with some corn and biscuits, maybe a little soup.
